Grandma's Family Tradition

Memorial Day

Reading Comprehension for May 27

Ashley, Vanessa, and Corey Wenner tumbled out of the van. "We're here! We're here!" Ashley shouted.

Vanessa added, "I thought we would never get here!"

Corey didn't say anything. He was so happy that the long drive was over that he was turning cartwheels in Grandma's front yard.

Their mother climbed out and stretched. Their father went around to the back to start unloading the luggage. The side door to the little white cottage flapped open, and a small woman with salt and pepper hair stepped out.

"Grandma!" Corey yelled. He was the first to leap into her arms for a bear hug. Ashley and Vanessa followed after him.

Once the group had carried everything into the house and gotten settled, they gathered in the living room to discuss plans for the weekend.

"Can we go fishing?" Corey asked eagerly as he bounced on the couch between his parents.

"Can we go swimming?" Vanessa asked. She was kneeling on the floor and petting Cinnamon, the dog. "I brought my suit!"
