Grumpy Jerry

When do you feel grumpy? Some people are grumpy in the morning. They just don't feel like getting out of bed. Some people are grumpy at night. They are tired and can't wait to go to bed. Some people are grumpy in the middle of the day.

Jerry is grumpy all the time. When he gets out of bed, he's grumpy. When he goes to school, he's grumpy. When he gets home, he's grumpy. He loves to complain. He loves to tell everyone how bad he feels. He likes to argue, too.

Cindy is one of Jerry's friends. She likes to talk to grumpy Jerry. She does not like to hear him complain all the time, though.

One day last week they were walking home from school together.

"It's a pretty day today," Cindy said.

"It's supposed to rain later," Jerry said. "It will be another bad day, just like yesterday."

"Well, I'm going to play outside before it rains," Cindy said.

"Okay," said grumpy Jerry. "You go outside and have fun. I'll stay inside today. I do not feel like being outside. It is too hot."

Cindy wished Jerry would stop being so grumpy. She really wanted him to be happy at least some of the time. She thought about what she could do. Then she made a plan.
