In Japan, a special writing is part of the culture. It is called shodou. It is like calligraphy. Calligraphy is a type of beautiful handwriting. A brush is used for shodou. Black ink is used. People write Japanese letters.


January 2 is a special day in Japan. It celebrates writing. It is called kakizome. It is a day to celebrate the first writing of the New Year. People write words. The words they write show how excited they are about the New Year.
