On February 3, Setsubun is celebrated. Setsubun is the day before spring begins. People in Japan celebrate the return of the sun. They prepare for the planting season. It is a time to get rid of back luck. Good luck is welcomed.


There are customs that are celebrated. Customs are ways to doing things. Customs are done year after year. People throw beans during Setsubun. The beans are supposed to get rid of the bad luck. People then run to pick up the beans. Each person can pick up the same number of beans as their age. They may add one more for luck in the coming year.
