How do hares living in the northern icy Arctic protect themselves? They don't have sharp teeth. They don't even have sharp claws. But these hares do have hair, and that fur sure does comes in handy! In the winter, the Arctic hare has thick white fur. This white fur helps him blend into his snowy environment. It helps him hide from other animals. As the seasons change, so does the Arctic hare's coat. In the spring he sheds his snow-white coat. His new coat is brown. This brown fur helps him hide once again.
