Finding a home is sometimes hard. If you are a duck, it can be very hard. A duck family needs to be near water. They need to be able to find food. They need to feel safe.


Make Way for Ducklings is about a duck family. It was written by Robert McCloskey. Mr. and Mrs. Mallard were looking for a home. They wanted the perfect place. The ducks went all over Boston. They came to Boston Public Garden. It had everything they needed. It was perfect. Mr. and Mrs. Mallard decided to live there. Soon, they had eight little ducklings.


Mrs. Mallard took the ducklings for swims. She took them on walks. One day, they walked out of the garden. They were on a busy street. There were cars. Mrs. Mallard knew she had to get her ducklings home. She tried to cross the street. A policeman helped her. He stopped the cars. Mrs. Mallard crossed the street. Her eight ducklings followed her. They got home safely.
