How's the Weather?

Seven-year-old Johnny ran into the living room. "Is the weather on yet?"

Mr. Jacobs smiled. "No, buddy, not yet. I'll call you when it comes on."

Johnny went back to his room. He loved watching the weather when Dad watched the news. Dad preferred Johnny not watch all the news, though. He said that a lot of news stories were negative, and Johnny didn't need to hear them. Johnny couldn't understand why Dad even wanted to watch the news if it was so bad. However, the weather report always interested Johnny, and Dad usually called him to the living room when it was on.

"It's coming on now, Johnny," Dad called.

Johnny ran back across the hardwood floor and skidded to a stop.

"We're expecting a big storm tonight, folks," Matt Walker, the meteorologist, began.

"Oh, boy! A storm!" Johnny said. Dad chuckled.

"A cold front is moving in from the north," Matt continued. "When it meets up with our warm air system, we should experience heavy thunderstorms and possibly flash flooding."
