Industrial Revolution

New inventions came along in the late 1700s and 1800s that changed the way people lived. Spinning machines reduced the amount of work people had to do to spin yarn and thread. Factories were built that changed the textile industry. Machines did much of the work. Steam engines made transporting goods easier. This time was known as the Industrial Revolution. The word "revolution" meant that a major change took place in the way things were done.


New machines changed farming, too. Fewer people were needed to grow food. Many people left the farms. They moved to towns and cities to work in the new factories. Now machines could manufacture thread .....
