Insects on the Arctic Tundra

Not very many kinds of insects can live on the arctic tundra. However, the insects that do live there can make the tundra a very miserable place for people in the summer. Mosquitoes live under the snow during the winter. They have a chemical in their bodies that keeps them from freezing. In the summer when the ground is wet and soggy, millions of mosquitoes come out. Arctic bumblebees have longer and thicker hair and are darker in color than ordinary bumblebees. That helps them stay warm .....
