It Is World Hello Day

World Hello Day

Reading Comprehension for November 21

Bridget mumbled to herself as she walked home from school.

"What are you doing?" asked Ben coming up from behind her. "Talking to yourself?" he teased.

"No, I am not talking to myself," Bridget sneered at him. "I'm practicing for World Hello Day."

"For what?" Ben chided as a scowl crossed his face.

"World Hello Day," Bridget repeated. "It's next Friday, November 21. I plan on saying hello to ten people in five different languages. I'm practicing the sounds of the words."

"Why would you want to do that?" Ben asked gruffly.

"Because," said Bridget. "World Hello Day helps us to promote world peace. It sets an example for the leaders in our world to use communication, rather than wars, to solve problems."

"Oh," Ben replied humbly. "How did you learn about it?"

"My teacher, Mrs. Greene, told us about it. She's been teaching us how to say hello in Hawaiian, Swahili, Spanish, Japanese, and Italian. I'm trying to get them right, so, if you don't mind, I'm going to practice some more."
