Jake and Jackie Organize a Closet
Crash! A loud noise was followed by a bellow of, "Jake, come up here right now!"
Jake's mother stomped around in great frustration. She was returning a basket of clean laundry to Jake's closet, and when she opened the door, an avalanche of books, puzzles, and sports equipment tumbled off the shelves and nearly whacked her in the head!
Jake was downstairs in the den playing video games with his friend Jackie. Jackie was pretty cool and played equally as well as Jake did. Jake turned to Jackie and said, "Uh, oh. Mom doesn't sound too happy."
Jake and Jackie dropped their controllers and bumped into the coffee table as they tore out of the room. "What's the matter, Mom?" Jake asked as he stepped into his room.
"This!" Jake's mom said. "I was nearly hurt by all this stuff cascading out of the closet. You are going to have to straighten out this place so there is room for your clothes, and more importantly, so that no one gets hurt. So, no more video games until this closet is organized!" Jake's mom stomped out of the room.
Jake and Jackie looked at each other. Rarely had they seen Jake's mom so frustrated.
"Your closet really is a mess," Jackie said with a giggle.
Jake didn't find it so funny. "What am I going to do?" he asked. "Where do I start?"
