Jake and Jackie Set a Table

Ding dong! The sound of the doorbell rang through the house. Jake went to the door and peeked through the peephole. Jackie and her parents were here for the monthly neighborhood supper club.

"Hi, Jake!" Jackie said as she pulled off her windbreaker. "What's up?"

Just then Jake heard his dad calling from the kitchen. "Jake, come here for a second."

"Yes, Dad?"

"We are running a little behind. Would you please set the dining room table for ten people? Use the dishes out of the china cabinet."

"Okay."

Jake headed to the dining room with its mahogany table. They only used the dining room when they had guests.

"Jackie, want to help me? Dad needs me to set the table."

"Sure."

Jake carefully lifted out ten china plates.

"The silverware is in that drawer," Jake said.

"Right," Jackie replied as she pulled open the heavy drawer. "Is it in this case?"

"Yes."

Jackie carefully put the case on one end of the table while Jake put a plate in front of each seat. He then went to retrieve the linen napkins from another drawer. He showed Jackie how to fold them in a nice triangle. "Put them on the left side of each plate," he instructed.
