If you were to take an English literature class in high school or college, you would no doubt read a book by Jane Austen. Jane Austen is considered to be one of the finest writers of English literature. She was able to write about a life most of us would never know about. She was able to write about this life with a humor that makes it appealing to most readers.
By most standards, Jane Austen lived a very dull and boring life. She was born on December 16, 1775. Her father was a vicar, or minister, in Hampshire, England. She spent the first twenty-six years of her life in their home there.
Jane had more education than most young ladies of her time. She was home schooled by a relative for about a year before attending Reading Ladies boarding school. It was here that she developed a love of writing.
