John Adams

John Adams was the second president. He was born in Massachusetts. John was very smart. He studied law at Harvard. He became a skilled lawyer. John wanted the colonies to be independent from Britain. He did not serve in the army. He went to France and Holland during the war. He was there to begin friendships between the new country and these countries. He returned to the United States when Washington was elected president. He was the first vice president. He did not like being vice president. He complained to his wife, Abigail, about this. He did not think the job was important enough. John became president when Washington decided not to run for the office again. The Adams family was the first to live in the White House. It was still being built when they moved in! .....
