Keisha Suffers from Animal Cruelty

Animals can be our best friends. Friendly Keisha was cute. Her mother was a white Eskimo dog. Her father was an orange Pomeranian (pom-uh-RAY-nee-uhn). Keisha looked like a white-and-orange fluff ball! Her owners loved her. She was their best friend.

Keisha was pretty. But her life was sad. Keisha was born at a puppy mill. Puppy mills do not treat puppies well. The puppies did not get good care. The breeders did not let her drink her mother's milk. They did not clean her pen. Keisha's new owners did not know that the breeders treated their puppies so badly.

What happened to poor Keisha? When she was two, Keisha began having problems. She got allergies! Her skin itched. Her feet itched. She bit them. Her new owners tried to help. They took her to the vet. They used creams. They gave her pills. Nothing helped. Keisha had these problems because of being treated poorly at the puppy mill. Keisha was suffering. They had to put Keisha to sleep. This is called euthanasia (yoo-thuh-NAY-zhuh). They felt very bad. She suffered because of the cruel practices at the puppy mill. The family lost their best friend.
