Land of Ice

I am a country. I am part of Europe. I am its westernmost country. I am an island. I am in the North Atlantic Ocean. I am just below the Arctic Circle. I am Iceland.

Iceland was settled in the year 874. Arnarson first lived on the island. He was from Norway. Norway is another country in Europe. Arnarson was a Viking. He made his home where Reykjavik is now. Today it is the capital city. Years later, other Vikings came to the island. Each person had freedom. They each owned land.

Iceland is about the same size as Ohio. Iceland has many glaciers. A glacier is a large mound of ice. It moves slowly. It changes the land. Iceland has mountains. There are valleys. There are many waterfalls.
