Look at the Bright Side

Megan and Mom sat at the breakfast table. Slices of buttered toast were stacked on a blue plate. Mom sipped her spicy chai tea while Megan drank cold orange juice. All things seemed quite normal until Megan made a horrible discovery!

"Mom, there is no more grape jelly," wailed Megan, who tended to overreact, especially when the situation involved her favorite food. Her wide blue eyes were puddles of concern on the freckled landscape of her face.

"Look at the bright side. Now you can try my raspberry-cherry-pomegranate-acai fruit spread," said Mom.

Megan tried the multi-fruit spread. What a mix of names on that label! Megan was surprised by how much she liked it. She was glad that she had tried something new.

"Yum!" said Megan. "I never would have tried this if we had not run out of grape jelly."

After Mom and Megan finished breakfast, Mom drove Megan to school. On the way to school, they had to take a short detour because of some road work.

"Oh, no," wailed Megan, who tended to overreact when her schedule was disrupted. "I think I might be late because of this detour."

"Look at the bright side. We can check on the status of the new jungle gym at the park," said Mom, who was always very optimistic. She always had a positive attitude.
