Lou Hoover

Lou Henry was born in Iowa in 1874. Her father wanted a boy, so she was given a boy's name. Lou was very athletic. She played baseball and basketball. She skated and did archery. She went camping with her dad. She liked to fish. Lou's family moved to California because her mother had breathing problems. Lou went to college at Stanford University. She graduated with a degree in geology. She was the first woman in America to graduate with this degree. Lou met Herbert Hoover at Stanford. They were in the same geology class. Herbert and Lou married in 1899. They moved to China for Herbert's job. The Hoovers lived in different countries around the world. Their two sons were born in England. Lou was very smart.
