Magic in the Air

Magic Week

Reading Comprehension for October 27

The sign was splashed with color. Genna liked the sign's purple, green, and yellow swirls. Keegan read the words on the sign. His eyes grew large.

"A magic contest!" he exclaimed. "The city is hosting a magic contest! Magicians of all ages are invited to compete for big prizes. I'm going to sign up!"

"Me too!" said Genna as the wind whipped her hair across her face.

"Sign up for what?"

The small voice came from behind them. They turned around and looked down. There stood an odd-looking child with shaggy hair. The child was licking an orange lollipop.

"The city is having a contest. It's to see who can do the best magic trick," Keegan said. Then he sniffed the air. "I smell an orange. Is it your candy?"

The strange child looked at the orange in his hand. "I don't have any candy." The aroma of oranges grew stronger. He began to juggle. "I only have these oranges."

Keegan looked again. Four oranges were circling in the air. Where had they all come from?
