Magical Dreams

David Copperfield

Reading Comprehension for September 16

Do you believe in magic? Do you think someone can make the Statue of Liberty disappear? Would you believe someone has walked right through the Great Wall of China? If you say no to all these questions, then maybe you have not seen David Copperfield!

David Copperfield was born David Seth Kotkin on September 16, 1956, in Metuchen, New Jersey. He learned card tricks from his grandfather at the age of seven. He still uses these illusions in his shows as a way of honoring his grandfather. While he was still quite young, he began performing magic at birthday parties in his hometown. He went by the name of "Davino the Boy Magician" at these performances.

Not long after his time as "Davino," he became the youngest magician ever admitted to The Society of American Magicians. While he was in high school he found out that doing magic got a lot of attention, especially from the girls! At the age of 16, he began teaching magic at New York University.
