Mosasaurs, Not Dinosaurs

When you read the words "sea serpent," what do you think of? Do you think of a giant animal that lived in the sea? Do you picture this animal with a large head and a pointed snout full of long, sharp teeth? One animal that lived during the age of the dinosaurs looked just like this. It was a mosasaur (MOWS-ah-SORE). Mosasaurs weren't dinosaurs. Dinosaurs walked on land. Mosasaurs were reptiles that lived in shallow seas. Just like with dinosaurs, there were many different kinds of mosasaurs, too. Tylosaurus was the biggest one - nearly sixty feet long! That's as long as a five-story building is tall! Mosasaurs needed to come to the surface .....
