MyPlate: The Vegetable Food Group

MyPlate can help me make good food choices. It can help you, too!


MyPlate is new. It took the place of the Food Pyramid. I think MyPlate makes it easier to see what I should eat.


MyPlate is a symbol. It shows a plate with four parts. One of those parts is for vegetables. Half the plate is full of fruit and vegetables.


Kids between the ages of four and eight need one and one-half cups of vegetables every day. Girls between the ages of nine and thirteen need two cups every day. Boys of that age group need a half cup more.


Vegetables come from plants. Many people grow their own vegetables. Veggies are very good for us. They give us vitamins and minerals. They give us fiber, too.
