Oil and Natural Gas

Oil and natural gas are fossil fuels. They are important minerals found under the ground, trapped between layers of rock. In 1859, Edwin Drake was the first man to drill for oil in the U.S. A well was drilled into the rock. The oil was pumped to the surface. The first oil pumped was collected in a bathtub. As more oil was pumped, it was put into barrels made of wood. Oil is still drilled in much the same way all over the world. Some wells are even drilled under the ocean. Companies study the rocks underground in different places. When they think oil or gas might be found, .....
