Reading Comprehension for March 19
Yesterday was Devin's birthday. He had a party. Many friends came to the party.
They played games. Justin won the first game. His prize was a beach ball. Dana won the next game. Her prize was a swim ring.
After they played games, they went swimming. They swam in the ocean. They tried to jump over the waves. They had a lot of fun.
Then Mrs. Allan, Devin's mother, called them. It was time to eat. They ate hot dogs. They ate hamburgers. They had potato chips. They had pickles. They had fruit salad. They drank juice.
Then it was time for the birthday cake. Devin's cake was chocolate. It had chocolate chips in it. It had chocolate icing. There were seven white candles on it. And best of all, there were chocolate caramels all around the bottom of it!
Devin loved chocolate caramels. They were his favorite candy. He could hardly wait to eat one!
Devin's mother lit the candles. Devin pulled one caramel off the cake. He ate it. Then he made a wish. He blew out the candles.
Devin's mother gave him some cake. She gave him three chocolate caramels. Devin said that he needed four caramels. His mother gave him one more. Devin ate them all.
Mrs. Allan gave a piece of cake to Terry. Terry ate the cake. He gave two caramels to Devin. Devin ate them.
Mrs. Allan gave a piece of cake to Mary. Mary ate the cake. She gave one caramel to Devin. Devin ate it.
Mrs. Allan gave a piece of cake to Justin. Justin ate the cake. He ate one caramel. He gave two caramels to Devin. Devin ate them.
Mrs. Allan gave a piece of cake to each child. Each child ate the cake. Each child gave Devin one or two caramels. Devin ate all of them.
At last all the cake was gone. There was one caramel left. No one wanted the caramel.
No one but Devin.
