Lila Diane Sawyer was born on December 22, 1945. She was born in Kentucky. Her father was a leader in the community. Today, E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park is named for him.


When Diane was eighteen, she won a contest. She was named "America's Junior Miss." She won money to go to college. She graduated from college. She earned a degree in English. Then she entered law school. While there, she became a local TV news reporter. She was a weather reporter. She enjoyed her job.
