Outdoor Games

National Backyard Games Week

Reading Comprehension for May 19

This week is known as National Backyard Games Week. How do you observe a week that is devoted to backyard games? You go outside and play! You don't need any special equipment. All it takes is nice weather and a group of children ready to have some fun!

Some outdoor games and their directions are listed below. Perhaps you have played some of these games. Maybe some of them are new to you. If you learn how to play all these games, you'll know what to do the next time you're in a group and no one knows what to do.

CARTOON TAG: Everyone knows how to play tag. This game turns up the fun! To play cartoon tag, the person who is tagged by "it" must freeze. To be unfrozen, someone must touch the frozen person and call out the name of a cartoon ("SpongeBob SquarePants!" "Phineas and Ferb!"). A cartoon name can only be used once. Play the game until everyone except for the person who is "it" is frozen. The last person to be tagged is "it" for the next game.
