Pablo's Farming Trouble: Drug Trafficking in Colombia

Drugs can be helpful or harmful. There are helpful drugs that can fight anything from a headache to strep throat. There are harmful drugs such as heroin and cocaine, which are illegal because of their dangers to the human body. Helpful drugs are created by scientists in laboratories throughout the world. Did you ever wonder where the illegal kinds come from and how they make their way into the hands of ordinary people?

Ironically, many of the ingredients for illegal drugs are grown on farmland throughout the world. From there, the right mix is created. Then the drug is smuggled to places in the world where it can be sold for lots of money, often illegally. The combination of steps from growing the plants to selling the products in exchange for money is known as drug trafficking. One place that is known for drug trafficking is Colombia.
