Juneteenth - Emancipation Day

Reading Comprehension for June 19

"Ellema! Where are you?" Her brother, Jelani, called.

"In here," said Ellema from her room.

Jelani peaked in the door. "What are you doing?"

"Homework," said Ellema. "Why?"

"I'm bored. Do you want to go to the rec center with me?"

Ellema shook her head and pointed to a pile of books and magazines. "No, I need to finish reading these books and articles."

Jelani's eye's grew wide. "Do you have to read all of them today?"

Ellema giggled. "Yes, today. But I only have to read certain parts."

Jelani wiped his brow. "Whew, I thought you'd have to read the whole pile." Jelani paused. "What are you reading about?"

"Juneteenth," said Ellema nonchalantly.
