Remembering Veterans

A long time ago there was a war. It was a big war. Many countries fought in the war. People called it a world war. Later, it became known as World War I.


World War I lasted for four years. Many people died in this war. Many young people died. It was a terrible time. Everyone was happy when it ended. It ended on November 11, 1918. It ended at 11 A.M. on November 11, or 11/11. This became an important date to remember.


It is called different things in different countries. In America, it was called Armistice Day. Armistice is a big word. It means a time when two sides stop fighting. November 11 was an armistice day. It was called Armistice Day for a long time.
