Selling Sandwiches

"These are as cold as ice," Tucker said, reaching into the box of cold treats and handing them to his cousin Josh. "Do you think anyone will buy these?"

"Sure," Josh said as he arranged some chocolate ice cream sandwiches on the ice in the cooler. "Hot and sweaty people run through this park all the time."

"I know. Don't you think they will run right by, though?"

"Maybe they will run AND buy!" Josh said, rolling his eyes. He liked Tucker but sometimes wished Tucker could think more positively.

Tucker had visited Josh every summer for as long as he could remember. Tucker's parents had jobs that required them to travel in the summer. It was hard for them to find places for him to stay. He enjoyed being with his Aunt Samantha and Uncle Joseph. Josh was the cousin closest to his age, although several others lived in the same town. There never seemed to be a dull moment with Josh around.

Josh was very creative. He was always coming up with some new idea. Selling ice cream sandwiches to people in the park was the latest thing he thought to try. The backyard of Aunt Samantha and Uncle Joseph's house came up against a bike and running path that a lot of people used.

When Josh had asked his parents about selling ice cream sandwiches, they said it would be okay as long as he stayed on their property. Permits were required to sell things on the trail itself. So Josh and Tucker were careful to set up their stand a few feet away from the trail. Josh was all excited. Tucker was a little skeptical. He felt people would just keep moving.

And keep moving they did...some of them, anyway. The first twenty people or so kept right on jogging or biking. Tucker was beginning to feel a little smug.

However, just when he was about to say "I told you so" to Josh, a family stopped by.
