Shaun White, Snowboarder

It was 1998 when the Winter Olympic Games first welcomed snowboarding as an Olympic sport. Nagano, Japan, hosted the Olympics that year. Shaun White was only 11 years old; that was too young to take part. He must have been excited to see the sport televised; after all, he had been snowboarding for five years! Two years later, at age 13, Shaun turned pro.

Shaun tried out for the 2002 U.S. Winter Olympic team. He was 15 years old. He came close, but he didn't make it. However, he did compete in the Winter X Games; he won two silver medals there.

Shaun White earned a spot on the 2006 U.S. Winter Olympic team at age 19. He traveled to Torino, Italy. There he won the gold medal in the men's half-pipe.
