Sinead and John Kerr: Ice Dancers with Big Dreams

Do you have siblings? How would you like to spend hours each day practicing a skill with them? Sinead and John Kerr are two such siblings.

Sinead, who is two years older than John, began roller skating when she was eight. A year later, she began ice skating. She said, "I liked the grace of the ice rather than the bumping of the roller skates. And the roller skates felt heavy on my feet."

Sinead's mother regularly took her to the ice rink for lessons, and her brother John often tagged along. When he was nine, Sinead's coach asked him if he'd like to try skating, too.

Many sibling skate partners start off together, but not the Kerrs. Sinead first partnered with Jamie Ferguson after skating single until she was fifteen. They skated together for a few years, but their different goals split them up.
