The Clean Up Crystal River Project

National Rivers Month

Reading Comprehension for June 9

"June is National Rivers Month," the poster stated. "Since the Clean Water Act was enacted in 1972, river clean-up projects have become popular. Show your support for Crystal River; take part in a clean river project!"

After giving it some thought, Jamison Dunn approached his friends about joining in the fun of cleaning up the river.

"Fun?" squealed Alysha. "How can you think of cleaning up yucky stuff as fun?"

Clay agreed with Alysha. "I have better things to do with my time."

Jamison looked at Leah. On whose side would she be?

"I don't know," Leah said hesitantly. "It's a worthy cause. The work will go quickly if enough people volunteer to help. I think we could have a good time working together, even if we do find yucky stuff."

"Come on," Jamison pleaded with Alysha and Clay. "Think about it. This is one time we have permission to get in the river and get all wet!"

Finally the others were convinced, and the four teens signed up for the clean river project.
