The Midnight Ride of...Sybil Ludington?

Paul Revere is remembered for his famous midnight ride more than two hundred years ago. Sixteen-year-old Sybil (or Sibbell) Ludington made a similar ride, but you might never have heard her name. Here is her story.


On April 26, 1777, a messenger came to the Ludington house. He warned Colonel Henry Ludington, a leader of the local militia, that the British were going to attack nearby Danbury, Connecticut. The colonial militia had a large supply of munitions stored there. The Ludingtons lived about fifteen miles away in Putnam County in what is now the state of New York.
