The Mystery of the Glowing Wolf, Part Two

Ashley's scream made Mrs. Tufts come running out to the front porch.

"I saw one! I saw one!" said a very distraught Ashley.

"What did you see, dear?" said Mrs. Tufts.

"I saw a ghost wolf. It ran right by!" screamed Ashley as she twisted her magenta-streaked hair with her fingers. She seemed unable to move because she was so afraid.

"Let's go on inside," said Mrs. Tufts, as she ushered Ashley to the brightly-lit kitchen, where the girl sat down and described what she saw.

"The ghost wolf was glowing bluish-white, and its fierce amber eyes glared at me. We have to call the police. I need to get out of here. This place is haunted, and that creature was eerie. Whatever ran past the house reminded me of the evil beasts described in that old manuscript," said Ashley.

While Mrs. Tufts called the police, Ashley tried to relax. In the warmth of the kitchen, the ghost wolf seemed like a bad dream, but her brain still felt frozen with fear. Her white hands were ice cold. What was that creature, and where was it now?

A short time later, a police officer arrived. He talked to Ashley at the kitchen table while Mrs. Tufts served hot chamomile tea. Ashley described the animal while Stan took notes. He had never heard of an animal like that before!

"I think I'd like to go outside and look around. You can join me if you like, but I understand if you'd like to stay here," said Stan.
