The Mystery of the Missing Ticket

Anna burst into the living room. Her hazel eyes were wide with excitement. Her frizzy gold hair radiated out from her head like the rays of the sun. She held up a ticket in triumph.

"Grandma, I got the ticket!" Anna screamed.

"What ticket, dear?" asked Grandma.

Grandma was sitting in a maroon wing chair reading a thick book. Grandma did not watch television. She loved to read instead. She always had several books that she was reading simultaneously. Sometimes she breezed through a book in a day or two. Sometimes she read one book for a while and then switched to another one for a week. She always joked that she had no concentration! Next to the pile of books on her reading table was a stack of pretty bookmarks.

"I got a ticket for the Screamin' Lemons concert next Friday," said Anna with a sigh.

Anna loved the Screamin' Lemons. They were a rock group. They wore sparkly yellow outfits and had bright yellow hair gelled into points. They looked like living citrus fruits. They were zany and fun!

Anna sat down in the other wing chair near her grandmother. She described how she had waited in line for hours to get the ticket. Even though Grandma didn't understand rock music, she was a great listener. It was her most endearing quality. She leaned forward and peered over her wire-rimmed glasses. Her blue eyes studied her granddaughter intently.

"Grandma, this concert will be fantastic," said Anna.

Ding dong! "Oh, that's Becky," said Anna. "We have to go to the library tonight and do more research for our project. I will be back in about an hour."
