The Mystery of the Strand of Pearls, Part 1

Felicity fingered the antique strand of pearls lovingly. They represented a memory. This strand of pearls had been worn by her great-grandmother at her wedding. Then her grandmother and her mother had followed the tradition. Now, the precious heirloom belonged to Felicity's older sister, Jane. The luminescent strand glowed in Felicity's hand, and she noticed that her palm was sweating. She was so worried. Where was Jane?

Felicity looked around Jane's room. Heavy mahogany furniture filled the corners of the room. She saw her own reflection in the large oval mirror on top of the dresser. Her dark hair was twisted in a braid around her head. The brown braid contrasted sharply with her bright pink satin dress. She prided herself on her appearance and took good care of her clothes. It annoyed her to see a blue sash thrown carelessly across Jane's bed.

Jane was usually not so careless with her things! Their grandmother would not have been happy to find them discarded in a tangled heap. It aggravated Felicity, too. But how could she be irritated when Jane was nowhere to be found? She had been missing since yesterday.
