The Pet Rock

Gary Dahl was a man with a crazy idea. That idea was to market rocks as pets! After all, he reasoned, rocks don't make messes, they don't run away, and they don't need special food or shelter. It was 1975. Dahl wrote a small booklet about pet rocks. It told owners how to care for the pet rock. It also gave tips on training the pet rock to do tricks such as sit, roll over, and attack. The funny booklet was the best part of the idea! Dahl included the booklet with every purchase of a pet rock. The pet rock came in a small cardboard box with a nest of straw.
