The Pumpkin Race

"How is it growing, Dad?" asked Samantha as she walked out to the garden.

"It's coming right along," said Dad proudly. "You haven't been out here in a while. Come and take a look."

Sam stared at her dad's pumpkin. It was huge.

"Wow," she gasped. "That is the biggest pumpkin I have ever seen. It's bigger than me! Did you grow that from a seed package from the store?"

Dad shook his head.

"Nope, this beauty was from some special order seeds. The seeds are called Atlantic giant pumpkin seeds. They are bred to grow really big."

"Why do you have it on that wooden pallet?" asked Sam.

"Well, it keeps the pumpkin off the ground. It also makes it easier to move it come weigh-in time," said Dad.
