The RV Project

"Could you hand me that three-quarter-inch wrench, please?" asked Dad.

Donald picked through the tool box until he found the right one. He handed it to his father, who was lying on his back under the recreational vehicle. The concrete driveway made a fairly good place to work. At least it was level, and the little wheeled dolly that Dad was lying on could roll easily in and out from under the large vehicle.

"Dad, when do you think we will be done with all of the renovations on this thing?" asked Donald.

"Well, let's see. We finished the cabinets in the kitchen area, and as soon as I have all of these fittings tight, we will be done with the plumbing. I think the new radio is going to be nice, but I still want to get the new carpet installed, and I would like to redo the fabric on the seats."

"Yes, but how long will all of that take?" asked Donald with just a little bit of irritation in his voice.

"We've made a lot of progress on redoing this old girl. Some of this stuff takes time and, of course, a lot of money. I want to do things right as I go along. It is not good to rush certain things that are critical," said Dad.

"Yeah, I know," said Donald, "but will we be able to take her out camping this summer? Now that school is out, I wanted to go camping someplace."

"I know what you mean, son. I want to do that, too. There are several things that would need to be done before we could take her out on the road. There is also the cost of gasoline. Since everything is so high right now, I don't think we could afford to take it for a very long trip." Dad looked at the disappointment in Donald's eyes. Then he added, "Maybe we could go to a local campground after we get some more things fixed."

Donald brightened up a bit. "Maybe we could take it to the lake. That's not too far from here, and if we went there, we could do some fishing."
