It helps to create our seasons. The Earth orbits around the sun all year long. When the northern hemisphere is tilting toward the sun, that hemisphere experiences summer. That part of the Earth receives the most direct rays of the sun. This makes the summer weather hot. While the northern hemisphere is pointing toward the sun, the southern hemisphere is tilting away from it. This means that the sun's rays are indirectly hitting the southern hemisphere.
