The Mississippi-Missouri River system is the fourth-longest river system in the world. The source of the Mississippi River is near Lake Itasca in Minnesota. The Missouri River's source is in the Rocky Mountains at Three Forks, Montana. It is called the Red Rock River there. It erodes a lot of sand and mud as it rushes down the mountains. The Missouri River has been given the nickname "The Big Muddy."
