What Are Wants and Needs?

Families must make choices about how to spend money. Money is first spent on needs. If more money is left, then it can be spent on wants.

Needs are things we must have. A place to live and food to eat are needs. Clothes are needs. But we don't need the latest fashions or expensive brands of clothes. We need to drink water. To stay healthy, we need the services of a doctor or dentist. We need air, too. Air is something we need that we don't have to buy. Most of our needs cost money. People work to earn money. They need money to buy what they need.
