What Is Quakerism?

Caption: George Fox

Friendship is part of every major religion, but one faith stresses it more than others. The Quakers are also called the Religious Society of Friends. The Quakers are known for their peaceful beliefs and simple way of life. They also believe that slowing down helps a person find God. This might help everyone in our fast-paced society!

The Quakers began in England in the 17th century. The original Quakers were not happy with existing Christian groups. A man named George Fox is often credited with starting the Quaker faith. He left home at the age of 19 and began a four-year search to find God. When he was 23, he heard a voice that said, "There is one, even Christ Jesus, who can speak to thy condition." He felt that God wanted him to teach others about this inner voice.
