What's in There?

Liz likes to go grocery shopping. She and her father go about once a week. Liz's dad doesn't do all the shopping. He lets Liz help out a lot. He gives Liz the shopping list. He asks her to help find the things on the list. He and Liz try to find the best prices for their groceries.

Liz thinks it's fun. It's a lot of work, too. Adding up prices can be hard. Sometimes it's hard to make good choices, too.

Liz's father also helps Liz find nutritious foods. They buy a lot of fruits and vegetables. They also buy some packaged food. Liz's father said he can tell if a box or can of food is nutritious. It's all on the nutrition label.

The nutrition label is printed on most packages of food. It has several parts. The top of the nutrition label says how much food is in the package. It also gives the number of servings.

The number of servings is important to remember. Be sure to look at how much a serving is. Sometimes a serving will be less than you're used to eating - like only half a cup of ice cream. Be sure to check the serving size!
