Who Is Lady Liberty?

A small island in New York Harbor is the home of a famous tall lady. At 151 feet, she is as tall as a fifteen story building! She is dressed in a robe like an ancient goddess and wears a crown on her head. Though this lady is not real, she stands for something real. She is the Statue of Liberty, and she stands for freedom. The Statue of Liberty was a gift from the people of France. One night in 1865 a French sculptor decided to make this statue. His name was Frederic Bartholdi.
