Who Put Paprika on the Potatoes in the Pot?

Patty was planning a party. She was having company. She was preparing a picnic on the patio. She invited a group of people that worked with her at the hospital. She wanted to make her party perfect. Patty looked at the menu: shrimp appetizers, gazpacho soup, roast pork with apples, mashed potatoes, asparagus spears, and poached pears for dessert.

Patty's family agreed to help. She prepared a list of chores for everyone in the family to do. She put the list where everyone could see it. She put the name of the person at the top of the list and wrote the chores she wanted them to do under each name. At the bottom of the job list, Patty put a reminder to herself: Don't forget to put paprika on the potatoes!

Paul was asked to put up the patio chairs and tables. Penny was asked to set the table. She was to put placemats and paper napkins at each place. Next, she cut and cleaned the asparagus spears.

Peyton, Penny's husband, was helping in the kitchen. Peyton peeled a pile of potatoes and put them in the pot of water to boil. Patty put the pork in the oven. She put the pears in a pot of pomegranate syrup and began poaching them.

Patty put thirty minutes on the timer. She swept the patio while the pears were poaching. She picked some pretty petunias and put them in a pink vase. Patty stopped to admire the scene.

"It is going to be perfect," said Patty to herself.

When it was almost time for Patty's party, she changed into a pleated skirt and a purple top. Patty went into the kitchen to make sure everything was prepared. The shrimp was peeled and arranged in a circle on a plate. The pork was perfectly done. The plate was garnished with thinly sliced, baked apples. The asparagus was still steaming. The poached pears were put into individual dessert dishes. Patty looked for the potatoes.

"Where are my mashed potatoes?" cried Patty. "What happened to my mashed potatoes?"

"Right there," insisted Paul, pointing to a bowl of bright red vegetables.

"WHERE?" asked Patty again, frantically.

"The potatoes are right there," said Paul again, pointing to the same bowl.

"Tell me these aren't my potatoes. Tell me they are mashed carrots!" she cried with her eyes open wide. "Come on, guys, where are my potatoes?"
