The Wizard's Wizard

1 Dorothy lived in Kansas. She lived on a farm. She lived with her uncle and aunt. Dorothy had a dog. His name was Toto. One day, a tornado appeared. Dorothy tried to get to the storm cellar. Before she could, the tornado picked up the house. Dorothy and Toto were inside. The house crashed to the ground. Dorothy looked out of the window. She knew that she was not in Kansas anymore.
2 On May 15, 1856, the creator of Dorothy's story was born. His name was Lyman Frank Baum. He was born in New York. He was the seventh of nine children. Lyman did not like his first name. He wanted to be called Frank.
3 Frank's father was a businessman. He made a lot of money. Growing up, Frank lived in a big house. He loved his home. When Frank was young, he did not go to a school. He was taught at home. When he was 12 years old, he went to a military school. Frank did not fit in at there. He stayed there for two years. He got sick. Then, he went back to his home.
4 Frank liked to write. He started his own newspaper. His brother helped him. It was called The Rose Lawn Home Journal. Rose Lawn was the name of his parents' house. Frank's father bought him a printing press. He was able to print many copies of his newspaper.
5 Frank enjoyed collecting stamps. When he was 17 years old, he started printing a magazine. It was called The Stamp Collector. Then he opened a business. He sold and traded stamps with other collectors.
