Sit Up Straight!
By Beth Beutler
"Sit up straight, please," Mrs. Hogan said to her students as she walked through the aisles of the classroom.
Jacob sighed and straightened in his chair. Mrs. Hogan said that nearly every day. In his opinion, it was more comfortable to slouch.
Mrs. Hogan returned to the front of the classroom. "Why is it important not to slouch?" she asked.
Marie raised her hand. (Marie always raised her hand. She was the best student in the class.)
"Yes, Marie?" Mrs. Hogan asked.
"It will help us avoid back problems in the future," Marie answered.
"That's a good answer, Marie. Yes, sitting, standing, and walking straight do help us avoid back and neck problems. What else?"
John raised his hand.
