Mandy Moore's Life So Far
By Brenda B. Covert
1 Amanda Leigh Moore was born on April 10, 1984. She was born with Irish, English, and Scottish blood in her veins. When she was seven weeks old, her family moved to Orlando, Florida. That's where she went to school. That's where she got the nickname "National Anthem Girl." That's where Mandy Moore was discovered.
2 We know her now as a singer and actress. She knew from age six that she wanted to be a performer. Performing was in her blood. "It may have come from my grandmother," Moore says. "She was a dancer in the theater district of London, the West End." Young Mandy was excited about attending musical theater camp. As she got older, her singing talent was revealed. It was after singing the national anthem at one of many sporting events in Orlando that she was invited to record a demo. She was 14 when she made the demo; it ended up landing her a record deal. Her first album was called "So Real," and Mandy Moore was a success at age 15! She left high school as freshman in order to work. She continued her education using tutors.
3 In 2001, Mandy made her first movie appearance, playing mean cheerleader Lana Thomas in The Princess Diaries. Her big break came in 2002 when she was cast in a lead role in the film, A Walk to Remember. It was a big success. Mandy Moore was no longer a singer who could act; she became an actress who could also sing! She has acted in a number of films and TV shows, and she has done voice-overs for cartoon characters as well. In 2010, she provided the voice of Rapunzel in the Disney animated film Tangled. Disney has announced plans for an animated TV series based on Tangled. Mandy will again provide the voice for Rapunzel. Look for it on the Disney Channel in 2017. Her biggest dream, she has said, is to perform on Broadway someday.
